RM Rides Icon

At Rocky Mountain ATV/MC we believe the best bike is not always the most expensive, best looking, most powerful, or even the newest. The best bike is the bike that you already have! It can be whatever bike you can afford. Motorcycles don’t have to be an expensive hobby. We have set out to prove that point in many different environments and riding conditions with our Cheap Bike Challenges. Gather whatever bike’s you can, bring whatever buddies you have, and get out and ride...even if it’s on a 1997 Yamaha TW200.

All bikes deserve love, right? As the monetary value of bikes decreases, the smiles per dollar ratio can increase. These Cheap Bike Challenges are a way to test our procurement skills, repair skills, and most of all...riding skills. All for your entertainment.

Follow along with the crew, as each new challenge brings new-used bikes, different obstacles, and even more fun! From $500 bikes on 5 Miles of Hell, $1,500 bikes racing 24 Hours at Glen Helen, Extreme Enduro racing with $500 bikes, $1,000 Motorcycles VS 1,000 Adventure Miles, and even Yamaha TW200’s through 5 Miles of Hell. You are sure to come across something that makes you want to get out and ride!

TW200 5 Miles of Hell

The 5 Miles of Hell trail in southern Utah has long been known to be a torture test on even the most skilled riders and capable of machines. Four years ago, the Rocky Mountain crew attempted our most ambitious cheap bike challenge to date: $500 budget motorcycles on the infamous 5 miles of hell. Now, we're back for more punishment as we take Yamaha TW200s on the 5 Miles of Hell for some hard enduro riding in one epic day of battling the heat, our bikes and each other! Watch to see if we make it out alive and with our bikes still in one piece!

5 Miles of Hell: $500 Motorcycle Challenge

What happens when you have a $500 budget to find a dirt bike capable enough to ride one of Utah's most famous and technically challenging trails? That's exactly what we plan to find out in our 5 Miles of Hell $500 Dirt Bike Challenge. In episode 1, the crew searches for the right bikes to conquer the gnarly terrain while staying under the budget of $500. Tune in to see how it turns out!

Extreme Enduro: $500 Motorcycle Challenge

The $500 motorcycle challenge is back, and this time, the crew is going racing. In this new challenge, our team heads to Juab Xtreme Racing, an intense and unforgiving extreme enduro race in Nephi, Utah. The gnarly track and sizable purse typically attract riders like Colton Haaker, but we were attracted by the race’s all-new vintage class. This time around, it’s not about survival, it’s about whose bike is taking the top step of the podium. From scavenging for parts at Bill's Boneyard and hosting our own "Enduro Olympics" to test riding an Endurocross pro's track, this series is a wild ride from start to finish.

Dorks of the Desert

Nineteen years ago in August, a 1973 Honda CB175 was air lifted by helicopter out of the remote desert of central Utah, all because a man from back east traveled unprepared into the desert to take some pictures. Since that fateful day and after a recap of the story marked down in history as “Mork of the Desert”, the belief has been held that street bikes can’t hack it on The Waterfall Trail, a single-track trail in the Temple Mountain Area of the San Rafael Swell.

Always on the lookout for a new challenge to conquer, Wes and Chance, two ambitious riders from the Rocky Mountain ATV/MC crew, decided to see if it really was impossible to take a street bike (or two) on The Waterfall Trail, or if it was just a lack of skill that lead to the airlifted CB 175 marking this trail as off-limits for the heavier, generally less-equipped-for-adventure road bikes. Commemorating this ride as “Dorks of the Desert”, the two riders set out on their trusty steeds hailing from a previous challenge, $1,000 Motorcycles vs. 1,000 Mile ADV Ride.

$1,000 Motorcycles Versus 1,000 ADV Miles

Our other challenges didn’t cover a lot of miles, but they were still some of the most fun we’ve ever had. So, does covering more miles mean we’ll have even more fun? That logic may not be the most reliable, but our passion for and experience with ADV riding certainly is. We’ll be taking these project bikes on our Hooked on Phoenix ride, a popular route that takes you from Mesquite, Nevada to Phoenix, Arizona and back. With a mix of dirt roads, technical sand and rocks, and even a little slab, this ride has something for every rider and certainly the right challenges to push these bikes to the limit.

This may be the team’s most ludicrous idea yet. Whether you think they are finally in over their heads or just adding another notch to their belts, you won’t want to miss a single second of it.

$1,500 Dirt Bike Race 24 Hours of Glen Helen

24 hours of tradition, speed, and clapped-out motorcycles – this is the Glen Helen 24-Hour Endurance Race, Rocky Mountain ATV/MC style. In episode 1 of the series we go on the hunt for budget dirt bikes that we hope will survive racing for 24 hours straight while staying under the $1500 budget.

In our newest cheap bike challenge, we’re testing if $1,500 motorcycles can make it 24 hours straight. The 24-Hour Endurance Race at Glen Helen was the perfect backdrop for our new series. Situated on a mountain side and maintained as one of the premiere motocross tracks in the nation, Glen Helen is host to one of the toughest and longest races in the industry. We’ve already survived some pretty crazy challenges, so what’s one more?

Roached 2 Racing

Introducing our Roached 2 Racing bike build series where we take a beat up, non-running 2005 CRF450R that we picked up for $1000, which was probably too much, and turn it into fully built race bike. As you can imagine with a bike that you find for this price, it was roached-out and in desperate need of some attention to get it running again and back on the dirt. In this series, we hope to show you the behind the scenes on what exactly it takes to do a full rebuild on a neglected dirt bike.
